I’ve been lately very passionate with an art by Barili. She was Serbian painter and one of the most charismatic artists of Europe between two wars. Her artistic spirit flew across poetry, illustration, design, costumes and scenography. The subtle performance of mystery, wisdom, lust and grace caught on canvas was stunning and made tremendous impact upon me. A glimpse into her art could only be described as trying to hold smooth veil, desirable and moony, filled with warmth and driven by beauty – in one word, untouchable.
Inspirational in many ways, she can only be best understood through her art, which is timeless. Among her infinite gift for art, thing worth mentioning is her undisputed charm for fashion. Interesting, among other, is to mention that her artwork caught an eye of Vogue and the front cover was published in 1940 – to the contrary of her previous years of life, filled with sorrow and agony of an true art genius torn apart by the destiny. Her life, interesting as her art, is story of love and hope with a bitter ending. Young and inspirational, left our world and gave us just a glimpse into the beauty, that will never be forgotten.
